MagRoll Application:

Initially developed for the diamond industry, the MagRoll, belt driven roll separator, has huge potentials for use in other mineral processing industries. Many of these industries will already be using similar technology, but it is expected that the MagRoll will introduce a new dimension of performance to these industries as well as enabling some new, or hither to unsuccessful, applications.

Features and Specifications

  • Fitted with De Beers’ unique, high-strength ‘SuperRoll’ design, constructed using large diameter rare-earth (Neodymium-Iron-Boron) permanent magnets
  • Exceptionally strong magnetic forces generated by the SuperRoll, are ideally suited to difficult applications and enable more efficient separations at higher throughputs than conventional magnetic roll separators
  • Magnetic roll design optimised to suit specific application requirements using magnetic modelling techniques
  • Material path fully enclosed and a dust extraction point provided for connection to an external extraction system, for dry applications. Hence, dust build-up on the magnet which, over time, would cause loss of performance and belt tracking problems is minimised
  • Belt constructed of durable material and designed to be self-tracking as well as easy to adjust and replace
  • Available in 250 mm and 500 mm wide versions, each with optional features in terms of control philosophy and types of instrumentation
  • Efficient separations achievable over a wide range of particle sizes from ~1 mm up to 16 mm

Performance testing and additional testwork

  • MagRoll products have been successfully deployed in diamond mines around the world, namely at Combined Treatment Plant (CTP, Kimberley), Venetia Mine (Limpopo), Gahcho Kué and Stornoway (Canada)
  • MagRoll products have enjoyed successes in the treatment of andalusite, a rock-forming mineralthat is mined for use in high-temperature refractories, at Andalusite Resources (Limpopo)
  • MagRoll products are currently in applications in the scavenging of ilmenite at Tronox (Western Cape)
  • MagRoll has shown tremendous results in concentrating lithium ore (Spodumene) from gangue
